Parish Profile
INTRODUCTION TO HUCCLECOTE
Hucclecote was once a village that became part of the City in 1974 and is now a suburb of Gloucester within the reach of the glorious Cotswolds and the Forest of Dean.
The parish is mainly residential and has a population of approximately 3,750 households, which is increasing due to new housing development, but still retains a village feel about it. Hucclecote has several shops and businesses, two primary schools, a library, community centre, doctors' and dentists' surgeries, a police station and two public houses.
There are active Methodist and Evangelical churches, plus a small Brethren group who meet within the parish. The housing in the parish ranges from 15th/16th Century to new estates, predominantly privately owned, and a small amount of social housing. Demographically the community in Hucclecote is thriving and well balanced including a large number of people of pensionable age, some of whom live in local residential and nursing homes. Hucclecote has very close proximity to the M5, and has a regular bus service into the City Centre.
Gloucester has major road and rail links to the Midlands, South West, Wales and London. A new large housing development is being planned in the east of the parish at Cranham Gate on the site of the old Gloster Aircraft Factory, where the first British jet aircraft was built.
ST PHILIP & ST JAMES
St Philip and St James is the parish church of Hucclecote. It is situated near the heart of the 'village' and it forms part of the Gloucester Diocese. The church is evangelical and a member of the Evangelical Alliance, with openness to the work of the Holy Spirit. Opportunities are currently being explored for further outreach in and around the parish. For information about the Anglican Diocese of Gloucester, visit: www.glosdioc.org.uk
