The Hathaway Family
John and Sylvia have been married for 7 years and have 3 children. Ben is 6 and likes football, Samuel is 3 and likes reading books and Isabel is 18 months and likes being doted on by her brothers! We are members of St Philips and St James Church.
We have been living in Gloucester for the past 8 years and have both trained at Redcliffe College to prepare to go overseas. We are moving out to Cochabamba, Bolivia in October 2008 to work with the Baptist Union of Bolivia (UBB) for two years initially.
In between looking after the children, John will be teaching theology at a Bible College training future pastors and Sylvia will be working in community development.
Theological education is a crucial need in Bolivia which has a large number of Christians but lacks people who are able to train future Christian workers in theology and biblical studies. Being involved in teaching the next generation of Christian workers is therefore a key responsibility as it ensures that they have a sound biblical basis to all that they will do.
Community development is likewise a key area for work in Bolivia as it is Latin America's poorest country. The project that Sylvia will be working with is based in a poor area of the city of Cochabamba.
